Building Development Consultation on 21st May 2009 at 11:30 am.
We at Edward Road see our church building as a useful recourse in which ministry can happen. After over a year of planning, we now have a proposed scheme with which to approach the building users for comment. This scheme, designed by APEC architects, is intended to see our building redeveloped to be fit for ministry in the 21st Century.
The scheme has taken into consideration the requirements identified in the initial consultation, and caters for the wide ranging needs of the community, reflected in the day to day life of the church, as well as the established needs of the church.
We are aiming to provide an accessible, welcoming, flexible, building that is functional, efficient, environmentally friendly that meets the needs of its active community based ministry.
To find out more about the scheme, and to have your say, do please join us at the consultation.

Cross Over 2009
On 14th June we are planning to launch our summer mission and cross over cultural barriers with the love of Christ, as we have our Open Air service and Feast-for-All in front of the church, under canvas. This has now become our annual pilgrimage onto our streets, which in the past has seen more than three hundred from our local community come into the church each time. All are welcomed in to help themselves to a mountain of food and drink that had been prepared and cooked on the barbeque. All are then welcome to stay to watch a puppet show, a concert performed by our youth, to participate in making a childrens craft, or to simply receive a helium balloon and a warm smile.
On 4th July well cross over Balsall Heath to Pickwick Park to man eight stalls at the Balsall Heath Carnival, as part of Churches Together in Balsall Heath. There well have space for children to play, families to relax and anyone to do some craft. Our young people will even go on stage to demonstrate all theyve learned in their creative workshops in front of 5000 or so people who are expected that day at the event. We believe that our presence there and our acts of service are crossing boundaries & communicating the gospel in practical ways.
So why not join us at these events in the community as crossover into our community with the love of Christ.

Are You the Youth Minister we're looking for?
Do you have a passion for discipling urban youth?
Are you a passionate and committed Christian, who can relate to urban young people? Can you lead a growing youth ministry and provide support, biblical teaching and discipleship to our ever growing community of churched and unchurched young people.
You will lead and manage a small team of volunteers drawn mainly from amongst the young people, so leadership, teamwork and motivational skills will be essential. Pastoral and teaching gifts would be highly desirable, as is an evangelistic outlook, and a good understanding of the problems facing inner city urban young people.
Edward Road Baptist Church is a medium sized, evangelistic, family orientated church situated in a deprived inner city area of Birmingham. We are a black majority but very cross cultural congregation and we have a long established record of serving the local, now mainly Muslim, community.
